Our Little Road trip to Kumasi

Oh my God !!!! It feels so good to be posting something again, I haven't been the best blog owner I know but I try guys I really try and i'm sorry for the long wait, I missed typing my random thoughts and ideas. Wondering how my holiday has been? Well nothing too extra, busy here and there but its been good in all. This girl has not been up to much, home most times thinking of the most random things you could possibly imagine, like -  As soon as I get a steady 500-1000 readers on each post (In my mind that is celebrity status) I'm giving you all a name, been thinking of the "Favourlites" get it ? like the Israelite's (Stuff like that, you wouldn't want to be in my head you might just have a seizure or you roll your eyes so much they won't come back to the front.)

Lets talk about today's post, First off i'm giving a shout out to my fav Grace Boateng and her mum Nana Ohema for hosting my annoying self, this trip wouldn't have happened without her. Sincerely this trip was supposed to have happened weeks ago but things happened, life happened and it was moved and moved till we finally had the chance to leave Accra on a Sunday, we spent about five days in Kumasi if i'm not mistaken. Let me be completely honest, I went to Kumasi without the intent of writing a blog post about it, it just didn't cross my mind till I visited the MANHYIA PALACE MUSEUM. Out of all the places I visited in Kumasi, my favorite had to be the palace museum, I just couldn't shake the feeling of happiness I got from just being there, by the time I got to the gates of the Palace grounds I feel in love with the atmosphere, even before getting to the museum itself I had made up my mind to write about it. Why ? I once saw the way they danced and moved their hands during my friends dads burial and since then I haven't been able to get it off my mind (I think its called the ADOWA), anyone who knows me well, knows i'm a sucker for culture & heritage, there are no words to express my love for undiluted displays of culture and this palace, its surroundings and this city was established and fixed on the cultures of the Ashanti Kingdom and that alone was enough reason to marvel and share its cultural beauty.

We arrived Kumasi on Sunday Evening with our trusty puppies( Biscuit and snow) in little cartons after a four hour road trip, to a delicious meal and a warm environment, I wanted to tour the house immediately but I had to tell my heart to calm down, there was time for that. I must confess, my time in Kumasi had to be the most stress-free week I have had this summer, I mean if your toast had "HAVE A NICE DAY" with a smiley face on it, best believe your gonna be a happy monster and I slept like a baby oh my God!! Monday Morning Gracie walks into the room like "Wanna go to the museum ?" I'm like yeah, no problem I'm down. I had no idea what to expect, neither did I inquire, you could say I wanted to be surprised.

That's how we found ourselves at the Manhyia Palace grounds, her mum Nana Ohema explained that on Mondays the royals are to dress in their traditional attire and the whole place was filled with men and women looking super wonderful in their attire, by then I was already shaking with excitement which I tried to hide. After brief introductions we moved to the palace museum. On the outside of its grounds one would immediately be greeted by incredibly sculpted lions and also live peacocks just moving around the premises. We entered the compound and I noticed lions in glass cases, I didn't really seem interested till I heard the words "Embalmed lions", ๐Ÿ˜ฑ๐Ÿ˜ฐohhhhhhhh this Ghanaian's finna kill me, they so extrrraaaa *gleefully jumping internally*. I stood there looking at them for over five minutes, guys they where so huge, In my mind I was like this is the closest i'm ever coming to one of these cause if I encounter one that's alive, i'll just find some salt and pepper and sprinkle some over myself and just lay down quietly๐Ÿ’€.

If you feel i'm gonna give you the whole history of the museum, is I a tour guide๐Ÿ˜ƒ? The thing is (I) you should come to Ghana and (II) my dumb self doesn't remember everything and even if I did, I wouldn't tell you all๐Ÿ˜›.
So this Palace was given to the Ashanti's by the British as a gift, but these strong Africans refused to take it as a gift and insisted on paying for it, they payed about £3000. Inside this beautiful piece of history lays life size sculptures of some of the Asantehene and also the Asantehemaa .
Did you know? That the Asantehene only appoints women from his linage as the Asantehemaa "Queen mother" (mother, aunt, sister...) and she must not be someone who is menstruating because the stool she occupies forbids menstruation.

.

The tour guide was smart and very informed when it came to his surroundings and questions. The museum itself houses a fan, an old black and white television and a fridge, all which still works perfectly well, works so well it was frozen when it was opened. It also displays medals of honor given to the kings past, another thing that intrigued me had to be the symbols around the palace their names, meaning in English and the philosophical meaning . I have been in Ghana for over eight months and to be honest I never really took notice of the Adinkra Symbols. Another point I enjoyed listening too was the story of the Golden stool and the British colonizers, also known as War of the Golden Stool and the history of the great Yaa Asantewaa.  The museum has a lot of crafts and ornaments that made me marvel, I remember a stool made from one cut of a tree still strong after the years past.  At some point in the day Gracie mentioned how every stool they carve with the symbols are made without any machines or math, just wisdom passed down from generation to generation, Africa is blessed.

Sincerely, I didn't want this tour to end but like everything good, it came to and and the moment I stepped out of the museum millions of questions flooded my mind. We moved to the gift store to see souvenirs and stuff and we couldn't help but fool lmao.

Did I mention how much I love boiled corn?     and then there are two very tired girls

We got home and after resting I came to the kitchen to criticize her pie making skills just because I could, she was taking forever.

and then there is a bonus video of us fooling at an African shop at the mall, basically what we did at the museum store.... Invite us to perform at your occasion ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

One more thing before I leave KUMASI MALL > ACCRA MALL *Argue with yourself๐Ÿ˜*

So yea ! Kumasi was cool and interesting, very different from Accra....When next I get to Kumasi maybe I will visit the waterfalls and any other tourist attractions.

That is all for today guys, thank you for getting to the end of this post๐Ÿ’“
Would be awesome to get some feedback and also possible topics to write about, been thinking of doing a little something on the LGBTQ community, I'm still deciding. But I would love to hear from you all.
